One of oldest and most treasured art forms has been the landscape painting. Many of the great historic names in art are inseparable from it. Monet, Constable, Turner, Ravilious – the list is long and esteemed. However, in more modern times this long appreciated practice has somewhat taken a tumble. Surpassed by new more “on trend” approaches such as the pop art movement of the 1960’s and, recently, urban street art which blew up in the 1990’s and seems here to stay.
'Sea Sky Blush', Sophie Hope Flavell, Oil on canvas, 54 x 64cm, £895

At 11 years old Taylor-Jones & Son is a relatively young and evolving gallery but we have certainly discovered that our passion lies with landscapes and art associated with it. We love the timeless quality landscape art brings to a space and how it reflects the world we inhabit and explore day to day. So, it is hardly surprising we have several artists in our line up who excel in this art form.

Concrete, Clouds and Countryside brings together 3 of those artists into one show as they are all releasing new work at the same time – Ben Fenton, Sophie Hope Flavell and Richard Whadcock. What we like about this show is that each artist has a very different take on how to reflect their subject, even though it is, in principal, the same one.
'Crossing The Downs', Richard Whadcock, Oil on paper, 60 x 90cm, £3,900

With these three artists our new exhibition Concrete, Clouds and Countryside shows off a contemporary approach to this most historic of art forms and maintains that long tradition of the love we have of a world we live work and play in. A world so familiar it can be easy to forget its beauty until it is reflected back to us in art.

The show launches at 10am on Saturday 15th February.

We look forward to seeing you.
